How To Use Content Curation To Build a Loyal Audience

How To Use Content Curation To Build a Loyal Audience | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Creating original content is hard work, not to mention time-consuming and often expensive. To boost your voice and keep the convo flowing, you need to share, share, share. But not without a plan or goal. This is where content curation comes in. As the Oxford Dictionary states, curation is “the selection, organization, and presentation of online content, merchandise, information, etc., typically using professional or expert knowledge.”

16 Curation Tools for Teachers and Students :: Casey Bell

16 Curation Tools for Teachers and Students :: Casey Bell | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
If you follow my blog, you know I curate a lot of resources for teachers. This post brings together a suggested list, a curated list if you will, of 16 curation tools for teachers and students from the Shake Up Learning community. Choosing how to curate and what tools to use can be a very personal decision depending on your own needs and preferences. That’s what’s so great about the world wide web of tools! There is no shortage of tools.

Curation is absolutely necessary in the information age! As Gayle Allen says in her book, The New Pillars of Modern Teaching, “We’re assembling resources in a way that represents the ongoing story of our learning. We are the curators.”

Case Study: 21CIF Scoop.it Magazine

Case Study: 21CIF Scoop.it Magazine | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Teaching Information Fluency describes the skills and dispositions of information fluency adept searchers. Readers will receive in-depth information on what it takes to locate, evaluate, and ethically use digital information. The book realistically examines the abilities of Internet searchers today in terms of their efficiency and effectiveness in finding online information, evaluating it and using it ethically. Since the majority of people develop these skills on their own, rather than being taught, the strategies they invent may suffice for simple searches, but for more complex tasks, such as those required by academic and professional work, the average person’s performance is adequate only about 50% of the time. The book is laid out in five parts: an introduction to the problem and how search engine improvements are not sufficient to be of real help, speculative searching, investigative searching, ethical use and applications of information fluency. The intent of the book is to provide readers ways to improve their performance as consumers of digital information and to help teachers devise useful ways to integrate information fluency instruction into their teaching, since deliberate instruction is needed to develop fluency. Since it is unlikely that dedicated class time will be available for such instruction, the approach taken embeds information fluency activities into classroom instruction in language arts, history and science. Numerous model lessons and resources are woven into the fabric of the text, including think-alouds, individual and group search challenges, discussions, assessments and curation, all targeted to Common Core State Standards as well as information fluency competencies.

What the Heck is Scoop.it?

What the Heck is Scoop.it? | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

It’s a user-friendly content curation tool with a social component, creating a one-stop environment for learning, sharing and connecting. (...)
There are many things about Scoop.it that I love. Its Pinterest-like boards provide the headline, image and the first few lines of copy, allowing for a quick scan of content. Scoop.it’s suggested content is always spot on (...) it’s easy (and the integration with other social networks is great)."

Thanks much Stacy Firth for this description of Scoop.it (and thanks for the positive comments!). Very accurate.

And yes Marketers are the number one users of Scoop.it!

As a complement, integration with Wordpress, branding (up to white lable) and analytics are probably the most popular benefits of the premium plans.

Indeed there is a social component to Scoop.it: the community of curators is leveraged to discover content and engage with like-minded people. It's secondary to the prime mission (publishing-by-curation platform), but we'll take into account the remarks about upgrading this social dimension. Noted!

PS: I like the title and the concept of this series :)

Curation for Content Marketing: Sharing Is Not Enough You Need a Content Hub

Curation for Content Marketing: Sharing Is Not Enough You Need a Content Hub | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Guillaume De Cugis, co-founder of Scoop.it, hits the nail right on the head for content marketers with a good article on the Business2Community.com site, where he highlights the declining benefits of social media marketing efforts on Facebook and correctly identifies:

a) quality and
b) engagement

as key content variables that do make a difference in remaining visible online.

He writes: "...if you’re just tweeting links, you’re missing out.

Why?

Because:

  • Your content is short-lived (the lifetime of a tweet is in minutes; a few hours at best).
  • You have no or limited opportunity to provide context.
  • You drive your audience away from you; not to your own site.
  • No opportunity to convert.
  • No opportunity to show related content.
  • No traffic from search.
.
Instead, if you curate your own content hub on a specific topic:

  • Your curated content is now archived somewhere and can be discovered and re-shared in the future

  • Your curated content receives targeted traffic from search

  • You can add conversion & engagement CTA’s (subscribe, contact me, request a demo, book services, etc…).

Good basic analysis and advice for content marketers.
De Cugis is right. 7/10

Why and how you should organize your curated content

Why and how you should organize your curated content | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

You already know the impact curated content can have on your business. From marketing efforts to employee advocacy and hiring, content curation is a company’s superpower across the board.
But curated content is only useful if you can navigate your way through it.
Think about it. Would a talented fashion stylist do their job well if they couldn’t find the piece of clothing they needed in a wardrobe? Would a skilled accountant be efficient if they spent most of their time looking for the right spreadsheet or document?

8 of the Most Engaging Classroom Social Media Activities

8 of the Most Engaging Classroom Social Media Activities | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Technology has undeniably and profoundly expanded access to education in many ways. For one thing, classroom walls have dissolved in the wake of these advancements providing new ways of learning. With classroom social media, a new age of education is dawning and teachers can be a catalyst for educational change.

The use of classroom social media allows students to communicate and collaborate with other students studying or researching the same topic or lesson material. With this freedom, students tend to take more responsibility for their own learning.

6 Great tools for content curation - Daily Genius

6 Great tools for content curation - Daily Genius | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

I read recently that content curation is dead. I have a few different arguments against this concept, but for now, I’ll keep it short and sweet: Content curation is not dead, and while the debate over curating content online vs creating new content will rage on and on, curating content for other reasons is still going strong.

I also agreee with this issue as good references are still a must.  Probably, we'd  stick to great curation features: short, simple and useful. Curation tools are smart mainly for two purposes:  the basic, to share only best quality  content on the web and secondly to release good content you've already produced.  The only hiccups is to be honest enough to publish only best  quality stuff.

Scoop.it Introduces New Layout Templates, Full Topic Embeds and Direct White-Label Publishing to WordPress

Scoop.it Introduces New Layout Templates, Full Topic Embeds and Direct White-Label Publishing to WordPress | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Scoop.it, the content discovery, curation, distribution and publishing platform has recently added some very significant improvements to its offering, that make it service even more interesting for any kind of online publisher, company or agency looking forward to find, vet and curate the best content available online on a specific topic.

The first and long-awaited new feature is the availability of multiple layout templates that Scoop.it publishers can now utilize and which can be swtiched to instantly.

The second one is full embedding of curated topics onto any web page to make it easiest for any publisher to rapidly integrate and display scoop.it content directly on their sites.

The third and most powerful new addition is the availability of a new white label direct publishing feature for WordPress-based publishers.

Although I have not had the opportunity to test this new feature, which is available only through a new Marketers subscription plan, it surely looks as the perfect fit for all those publishers who wanted to use Scoop.it more as a backend for producing curated content for their site than as a final publishing destination.

With these new additions Scoop.it consolidates itself as feature-rich, reliable and affordable content curation system that can satisfy many different types of needs: from education, to content marketing, news publishing and community building.
