Listennotes.com: a search engine for podcasts — @joycevalenza NeverEndingSearch

Listennotes.com: a search engine for podcasts — @joycevalenza NeverEndingSearch | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Listen up, there’s a new search tool in town.
Among my friends, at least, it seems that podcasts are a rediscovered treasure. (Check out Jayson DeMers’ Forbes piece, Why Podcasts are Popular, and the 2017 Edison Research Infinite Dial Study on  podcast statistics.)
The demand is growing, but how do you find podcasts without the effort of subscribing to a feed? Listen Notes is a search engine for podcasts.
Currently reaching across more than 410,000 podcasts and 24 million episodes, Listen Notes is searchable by people, places, and topics. Listen Notes is searchable in multiple languages. It offers autocomplete support as well as the ability to add a custom search to your own website. You can also examine trending searches.

Wonder - A New Search Engine by Experts in the Field

Wonder - A New Search Engine by Experts in the Field | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

"Wonder is a research engine fueled by experts. Explore results contributed by real people, and let our research network filter for you. It's like scanning the bookshelves of people you admire, and having a librarian help you."

Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 22, 2015 4:46 PM

Check out this new search engine called Wonder. Wonder is a 'human-centric' search engine. People who are knowledgeable in the field recommend resources. In fact, if you have a special area you need researched you may enter a 'ticket' explaining what you are looking for and researchers will "email you back high quality resources ASAP."

The search engine is free to use, but you must create a log-in (three choices available).

Once you enter your search terms items will appear with a small visual and some text. You may choose to save any item (and like or share an item). You may also request additional information (see note above) and the list of contributors is viewable allowing you to filter results by reviewer.

There are so many websites that students find that are not the best. This search engine would be great for students still learning how to search, or as a way to potentially see if the sites they find are also listed by Wonder. Take some time to explore and consider sharing this with students (I would suggest high school, and possibly middle school).

Leap.it - a whole new take on search. What are you looking to discover? Try it now!

Beth Dichter's curator insight, August 25, 2014 11:02 PM

A new search engine is now available. It is called Leap.it and as the image above shows, it is a more visual search engine than many. You can use the search engine as is, or you can create an account which allows you some additional privledges, including the ability to create a "perspective" where you can bring together a variety of sites in one location.

When reviewing the Terms and Conditions it is clear that students under 13 may not use the app without permission from parents. For more information on this issue take the time to read the Terms and Conditions.

Kiddle - a Visual Search Engine for Kids

Kiddle - search engine for kids with illustrated results and safe search.

Via Beth Dichter, Dean J. Fusto
Beth Dichter's curator insight, November 27, 2014 4:37 PM

Check out this new search engine called Kiddle. It is a visual search engine designed for children. What makes it different?

1. Most search results provide a large thumbnail. This image will help children differentiate some results.

2. The font size. Kiddle uses a large size of Ariel, a font that helps with readability.

3. Sites are filtered and are family friendly.

4. Kiddle is privacy oriented. No data is collected and logs are deleted after 24 hours.

If you work with young students, or have young children at home this search engine is worth checking out.

A Handy Search Tip Students Should Know About ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Handy Search Tip Students Should Know About ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Here is a pretty basic but very important search tip I want to bring to your attention today. Some of you might already be using it but I want you to share it with your students and help them search for information more efficiently. Using this search hack, students will be able to quickly find anything on a document, email or a webpage. This search tip involves the use of two keyboard buttons to bring up a small search box that will allow you to look for anything on the page you are on.
